“What if imagination and art are not frosting at all, but the fountainhead of human experience?”

— Rollo May, The Courage to Create

Creating images allows me to see the blazing universe with original eyes, each time for the first time, and I am present and available to life as it streams over us moment by moment and awakens the creativity within.

I am moved to paint both abstractly and representationally. I make no distinctions between my abstract and representational creations because I believe that All representation is an act of abstraction in its truest sense, and that All abstraction has to be conveyed through the act of representation.

Each image explores how art and life reflect each other and serves as a creation to celebrate and enhance the world. I create with whimsy, fantasy, movement, color, rhythm, experiment, borrowing, catharsis, serendipity and blind searching. It is an experiment in expanded awareness. I approach each piece with awe and exhilaration of every new beginning, without the burden of precedent—of what I had painted before. My paintings are varied because each creation evolves as I evolve.

I would hope that the sense of joy I feel is extended to the completion of the artistic process-to the viewer.

“There is a curiously sharp sense of joy-or perhaps better expressed, a sense of mild ecstasy—that comes when you find the particular form required by your creation.”

— Rollo May, The Courage to Create
